Resolution #3: Make This Year All About Family and Fun

All too often...I let myself get overwhelmed by the responsibilities of life. I know Eric is guilty of this too. Hell...we are ALL guilty of this from time to time. Its hard being an adult!!

But one thing we all have to remember is that life is short. Too short, in fact. And when you think of it that way, it seems silly that we spend so much time stressing over little things that don't really matter. Instead of spending an entire Saturday manicuring our lawn, we should all be out playing together at the park. Instead of spending a weekend trying to get my house in immaculately perfect shape, I should just leave the dishes and laundry for another day and go to the zoo with my family. Now, I am not saying that we should all live in a big pile of filth or that we should disregard all of our responsibilities. But what I am saying is that every once in a while, we should take a break from all that and focus on what is most important in, friends and FUN!! I will have to overcome my O.C.D. in the process, but I am willing to give it a try for my family :-)

Now, some things I would LOVE to do as a family this year are:

1.) Take one trip together. I don't care where we go or how long we are gone. I just want a few days away with my family to do something fun and memorable.

2.) I want to spend more time in the city. I have the city of Chicago in my backyard and I have only been downtown ONCE this year! I think Addie would LOVE the Shed Aquarium and I have always been a big fan of the Museum of Science and Industry.

3.) Take more classes with the kids. Addie loves her Baby Bees class, but there are so many other wonderful things to do too. And a lot of them are FREE!

4.) Spend more weekends playing together, even if it is just in our house or our own backyard.

I know it seems like this should all just be a given and not an actual resolution, but with the busy, fast-paced lives that we all lead nowadays..."fun" isn't always on our list of priorities. But I think that should be our #1 priority this year. Don't you agree? Anyone else making the resolution to have more fun and less stress this year? Or better yet...what is on your family's fungenda in 2010?

  1. Yes, I agree. I feel like I should be worrying less about our house being in order and just play more with Emma. With all the new fun toys she's getting this Christmas, I'm definitely excited to be all girly and play with them! Also Emma loves loves LOVES to dance! She'll watch people and try to copy their moves, so I really want to look into some kind of dance class we can do together!

  2. Beautifully put my dear!!

And YES you should go to the city more :-)

  3. I love this resolution!! The weekends feel like the only quality I time I get with the little ones, so I am all for doing fun things. The rest can wait!
