Blake's First Trip to the Beach

Having my sister-in-law Dana as a best friend growing up had a lot of perks. In addition to being the most lovable, caring, loyal best friend a girl could ask for...she also had super cute clothes to borrow, an older brother that could drive us places and...her family belonged to an awesome beach club. In the midwest...belonging to a recreational club with a swimming lake is about as good as it gets. It is the closest thing we have to a "real beach" and when you are a teenager, there is no better place to be in the summer.

It's funny to think back to when Dana and I were 13 and walking around the beach club in our little bikinis talking about boys. Who would have ever guessed that 16 years later, we would be walking on the same beach with our own children!!!

Here is Aunt Dana showing Blake the beach for the first time...

I just love his little Buddha belly :-)

I wasn't sure how Blake would like the sand or water, but we plopped him down with the rest of the kids and he lit right up...

He spent a good part of the morning playing in the sand...

And wading in the water...

Addie and Nia were SO excited to be at the beach today, but there were a few disagreements about who got which toys. So...Nia buried Addie in the sand to make sure she wouldn't steal anything else. Ha!

In all seriousness...the girls had a great time playing together today and it was so much fun listening to them chit chat as they did. At one point, Nia said, "Addie...I really like building sand castles with you", to which Addie replied, "Thank you, Nia!"

After the kids had their fill of the sand, they took to the water and some minnow "fishing"...

And while the girls did that, my little Nolan went for a swim by himself. What a cutie he is!!

Being at the beach club today made Eric and I very excited for the future and all of the beach and camping trips we hope to take with the kids. We had a great day and I really hope we can get out there a few more times before the summer is over. It is just going WAY too fast!!
