Memorial Weekend Recap

Despite all the rainy and stormy weather we've had the past few days, our Memorial weekend turned out to be pretty fantastic!

We pretty much stayed in where it was dry on Saturday, but on Sunday morning we made a trip down south to meet up with my BFF Tara and her family. We have been planning this zoo trip for months so even though there was a chance for rain on Sunday, we weren't going to cancel. Especially since I haven't seen these sweet peanuts since they were newborns!!!!

And now look how big they are at almost 7 months! I can't believe it. Little Brynn (a.k.a. Brynnie Boo) was my girlfriend that day. I held her for half of the zoo trip because she was so relaxed in my arms. What a sweetie pie :-)

But before we actually saw any animals, the kids all spotted the playground just outside the zoo. Addie NEVER lets a slide opportunity go by...

And neither does her boyfriend Connor...

Or her Daddy...

But if there is one thing that Addie loves more than slides...it's her Connor :-)

I mean seriously...it doesn't get much cuter than this.

Well...except for maybe this. Watching the two of them love all over Brynn and Cora was pretty sweet.

But after all the loving, the kids wanted to see some animals. So we fed some "gooses" first.

And then we went in for some barnyard fun. Addie wasn't really into petting the animals at first...

But as soon as Daddy showed her how easy it was...

She was all over them :-)

After the petting zoo, we were just in time for the Sea Lion show. He pretty much just swam around his little pool...

But Addie made sure to get a good view.

And so did Blakey Boy.

The zoo we went to was pretty small in comparison to the HUGE zoo we are members of, but I thought it was perfect for kids this age! All the animals were out in plain sight and it wasn't too overwhelming for them. We were able to see everything and spend plenty of time playing around. The kids were all about this tiger...

Good thing they didn't want to sit on the real thing. YIKES!

And really...what zoo trip is complete without at least 3 rides on the carousel?

Connor had a blast on this one.

Couldn't you just eat him up?

Before we left, Tara and I decided to attempt a family picture. As you can see...the kids were NOT digging this idea...

We blame it on hunger because really...the kids were all FANTASTIC at the zoo. We couldn't have asked for a better trip. And because they were good, we decided to treat them to Culvers afterward.

But poor Blake was too pooped to eat. This little man was passed out in her carseat about 10 minutes after taking this picture.

I am really so glad we all chanced the weather and made our zoo trip happen because it was a wonderful time! I think it may be our new meet-up spot :-) On the way home, we did hit some pretty nasty storms. I was tempted to take a picture of the sky, but I was too busy begging Eric to pull off the road and he was too busy telling me to calm down because it was "just a little rain". Men :-) At least we made it home safely!

I'm happy we had some down time last night because our weekend fun didn't stop with the zoo. Today, we headed over to my parent's house to open the pool and enjoy a little Memorial Day cook-out!!

Aunt Meagan...

And Uncle Ryan were there.

And like usual, they came baring gifts. They got Addie and Blake (although Addie would argue that it was just for her) this adorable little swimming Nemo pool toy. Addie had fun chasing it around the pool until the evil pool filter sucked him up! Don't worry...Nemo is resting safely in Addie's bed tonight :-)

Great Grandma and Aunt Kathy were there too...

And of course Nana and Papa. My kids were both little leeches on these two today!

Blake was having a great time splashing around.

And this little chic couldn't get enough of the water.

She has become such a good little swimmer. It makes me feel so much more comfortable with her in the pool.

Well...until Daddy starts tossing her around.

Blake swam his little heart out today too, but he was a little more interested in eating.

He did take a break to pose with Daddy.

But then it was back to eating.

And of course, no Mueller picnic would be complete without cupcakes.

I think you all know what this means...Sugar Detox tomorrow!!!

It really was a fantastic weekend for everyone and I am happy we could celebrate a holiday that is so important to our country. To all the men and women who fight for us everyday and for those who have lost their lives in the process...thank you for EVERYTHING you do. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

The Weekend Ahead...

Can I just say I am SO FREAKING EXCITED for the long weekend ahead! Eric is off work, the temperatures will finally be back in the 80s, and we have a TON of fun in store for us.

We get to take a trip to the zoo and see a bunch of these guys....

We are meeting my BFF Tara, her hubby and their adorable kiddies at the zoo this weekend and Addie can't wait to see her boyfriend Connor!!! I honestly can't wait to see my girls Brynn and Cora because I haven't held them since they were born 6 MONTHS AGO!!! And of course, I can't wait to see Tara so we can plan our Harry Potter Finale this summer :-)

In addition to the zoo, we also have a family BBQ to look forward too...

My parents are opening their pool and I don't know who is more excited, Addie...or my brother Ryan :-) He's such a kid at heart. I plan on swimming too, as long as I don't sink to the bottom with all the yummy food I plan to eat :-)

And because I will surely eat like a pig this weekend, I am going to need to squeeze in a little of this too...

I am actually almost done with Week 2 of the Bridge to 10K and I am feeling really good! I am a lot more sore than I thought I would be, but I guess that happens whenever you start to increase distance. Or so I'm told :-) I think it also has something to do with my 30-something body reminding me that I'm not 18 anymore. Ha! I am really looking forward to my 5K in two weeks though because I feel like I might have a fighting chance at breaking my PR. We will see!

So...what does everyone else have in store for this beautiful Memorial weekend?

Preschool Prep

Would you look at these sweet little BFFs...

My little Nia Beanie had her end-of-the-year preschool musical on Wednesday and Addie and I got to go watch her show. She looked SO SWEET standing up on stage singing and dancing. I just love that little peanut so much. She is such a big girl already!!!

Addie was so excited watching Nia on stage. The whole way there we talked about Nia and her "big girl preschool" and Addie just kept saying, "I want to go to pweschool too!!!" I only hope she is still saying that come September :-)

I think the greatest thing about Nia being a little older than Addie is that she gets to show her the way. Dana thought it would be a good idea for Addie to come to the musical so that she could see how much fun preschool is. And I honestly think it worked because it's all Addie has talked about. She even put on her backpack today and told me that she had homework to do.

Although I am happy that Addie gets excited talking about school, I am afraid it isn't enough for me. It's no secret that Addie hasn't gotten over her attachment to me this year in dance. It's never been a matter of her not wanting to dance or make friends. She loves dancing and all of her little ballerina buddies. She is as social as they come (seriously...this chic would talk to a brick wall if would talk back). She just has a hard time letting me go and that is something I am still working on too.

So this summer, I decided she needs just a little push before preschool. Our park district has a wonderful class called "Puddle Jumpers" which is designed specifically for 3-4 year olds that will be starting preschool in the fall. The class will meet 2 days a week, for 2 hours. It's only for the month of July so that the kids still have some summer to enjoy before heading off to their "real" preschools. They will get to do a lot of the same things they will do in preschool, like participating in circle time, doing arts and crafts, and they will also get to visit the sandbox, flower gardens (to learn about plants and bugs) and play with their sensory tables. It sounds like a ton of fun for them, but the real goal is to help them overcome tears and separation anxiety. They are prepared to take criers (I was told) so Addie will have to learn to adjust. I hate the idea of her crying when I leave, but the teachers assured me that kids are usually over it within 5 minutes of the parents leaving. So I am PRAYING that is the case.

I really think this class is going to be good for us. And if I know Addie, she will adjust fine and be chatting away with Nia about school in no time :-)

Be So Grateful...

I was just on Weather.com looking up the forecast for memorial weekend. I am busy planning trips to the zoo and cookouts. I see sunshine all three days and I think "Ahh...we are in for a beautiful weekend".

And then just as I am ready to leave the site, I see a link for the before/after shots of Joplin, Missouri. They have panoramic views of the beautiful hospital before the storm and heartbreaking views after the storm. You can see for yourself here.

It scares me to death to think that one storm can do all that. And these things just keep popping up all over the country with no warning. So friends...as we plan our Memorial weekends...let's keep all these people in our thoughts and prayers. And most of all, be grateful for every moment you have.

Must Stop Eating Like Crap

Okay friends...this is serious. I need a food intervention. Ever since I quit nursing Blake 5 months ago, I have been eating like crap. I have lots of food vices but the WORST addiction I have lately are these damn things...

Must. Stop. Buying. Them.

I always put them in my cart and say they are for the kids, but then I catch myself eating the whole freaking box within a week. And this isn't the only garbage I have been shoving into my mouth. It's really quite ridiculous.

I honestly feel like my poor eating habits lately are contributing to my lack of energy and tummy issues. Getting back on track with running has helped a lot, but not enough. I need to make a serious change and I am afraid the first place to start is with junk food. I must get it ALL out of my house. If it's not there...I can't eat it. Plain and simple. But I am going to have to replace it with something because a hungry mama = a psycho mama. I need food. I am a grazer and I need snacks throughout the day.

BUT...I have a tendency to get bored with healthy food. I love fruit and veggies but beyond that, I need to figure out some fast, easy, HEALTHY snacks to keep around. And I could also use some meal make-overs. We are such comfort food eaters around here that it is hard to switch gears and eat lighter, especially when your hubby is a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy. I don't feel like I need to diet or necessarily lose weight...I just want to eat better and it wouldn't hurt for Eric and the kids to eat better in the process.

SO...I think I need to do some recipe searching for yummy, hearty, healthy meals. Anyone know a good cookbook that focuses on this sort of thing? Any great healthy recipe websites? I would love to share what I find and hopefully all of you will as well. I mean...I can't be the only one that is in a food slump right now. Right?

Baby Shower Marathon!

It was a girl's weekend for Addie and I and we had SO MUCH FUN!!!! Aunt Meagan had both of her showers this weekend and we made it through both without a single tantrum or breakdown. Addie was such a good girl...I couldn't be prouder of her :-)

We started the weekend at Aunt Meagan's first shower, thrown by her mom and sister. They did an incredible job and had the cutest decorations. I wish we would have snapped a few pictures, but the only decor we managed to get on film was baby Owen's GORGEOUS nursery! This was the first time I had seen it and it was honestly cuter than I imagined!! Not that I expected anything less. There were a lot of talented people contributing to this nursery, including my bro :-)

Meagan came up with the cutest idea to put a three dimensional train track around the room using bias tape and popsicle sticks. My mom made the bias tape, Meagan painted all the sticks and Ryan nailed each one up individually. Time consuming? I'm sure. Worth it? Absolutely!!! I mean...just look how cute it turned out!!!

Isn't it adorable?

Ryan didn't think the nursery was complete without an actual moving train so he installed a track around the ceiling. OH...and see these curtains that match the bedding perfectly?

Meagan's mom MADE these curtains by hand using the quilt as a guide!!! Like I said...lots of talented people contributing. The room is so adorable...I wish everyone could see it in person because the pictures just don't do it justice.

After admiring the nursery, there was a LOT of eating and chatting taking place.

Here is Meagan getting a little practice :-)

Addie was probably the one having the most fun at the shower. Uncle Ryan was there to play with her and entertain her and then when she got sleepy, she had Nana to cuddle with.

But she wasn't down long because there was PLAY-DOH to play with!!! Making Play-Doh babies was the cutest idea. I know Meagan's sister has a pic of the baby Addie made. It is quite hilarious (and a bit disturbing) so I will have to post a pic of that later :-)

Like I said, Meagan's first shower was so much fun! But the weekend wasn't over yet because we threw Meagan her second shower today!!

Here is their adorable cake...

Before all the guests arrived, we took a few cute pictures. Here I am with my sistas...

And here is my Mamacita and the Momma-to-be...

And here are the cute parents-to-be...

And of course, pictures aren't complete unless Addie can jump in too :-)

She really had a blast today doing all her favorite things. You know, things like socializing and opening gifts...

Eating cake...

And hanging with all her second cousins...

The girls were all so cute together today! It makes me think of all my cousins and I playing together at showers when we were younger.

It is now 3:00 and my kiddies are just waking up from their 3 hour nap!!!!!! I guess Daddy was able to wear Blake out as much as I wore Addie out this weekend. It was busy...but so much fun. Meagan and Ryan got SO much adorable stuff for baby Owen. Seeing all the little outfits almost makes me have baby fever.

Almost.

I just can't wait for Owen to get here!!!!!!!!!! And I know Meagan can't either. She is severely swollen and uncomfortable and I pray that she finds some relief soon. Anyone have any tips or tricks for major pregnancy swelling? Any advice would be appreciated :-)

Well that's all I have for today friends! It's time for some serious relaxing so I'm going to put my PJs on at 3:30 and not feel weird about it :-) Hope you all had a great weekend too!!
