Happy 4 Year Blogiversary to Me!!!

When I started this blog 4 years ago, I had one goal:

Document my life.

At first, I only had a handful of followers which were mostly friends and family. They would stop by to see pictures of Addison, read about her latest adventure, or laugh at my Twilight posts. This was the first header I made for A Daily Dose of Davis...

Things were simple then. I was a new stay-at-home-mom, trying to adjust to this new routine. I retired my Banana Republic shift dresses for Old Navy sweat pants and t-shirts. I was still getting up at 5:30, but it was no longer to sit in traffic. It was to cuddle with my baby girl and make her breakfast. My days were no longer filled with meetings, phone calls and emails. They were filled with giggles, poopy diapers and breastfeeding. I was in this whole new world and sharing those moments and asking for advice on this blog is what got me through. I know it sounds silly, but blogging made me a better mom.

Perhaps the most amazing part of this journey for me has been sharing so many important moments in my life with all of you. I was blogging when Addie rolled over for the first time, when she took her first steps,  when she found out she was going to be a big sister, when my belly grew for the second time, when Blake was born, when HE rolled over for the first time, when he took his first steps...and the list goes on! You were all there for potty training, first day of dance class (along with all the meltdowns) and first day of preschool. You've seen me at my best and my worst. You know I am a crazy worrier and a bit overdramatic. You know I love to craft, run, read young adult fiction, teach college English and watch bad TV. You know all these things about me and you still come back to read! Ha!

The other day, a fellow blogger asked how I got so many followers. I actually laughed because in 4 years of blogging, I am still under 400 followers. I have seen new bloggers get 400 followers their first month of blogging!! In the grand scheme of things, I don't have NEAR as big of an audience as some of my other blogging friends. Not even close.

But trust me when I say...I am okay with that!!! Sure, it's always nice to make a new friend or read a sweet comment from a stranger, especially if you put a lot of work into a post. But the reason I have blogged for so long is not because I have been getting a paycheck or because I want to have a million followers. I blog because I love to write, share my crafts, tell stories, make friends and talk about my family. I am afraid that if I start to worry too much about bottom lines, followers, page views, etc...this whole blogging thing is going to feel like a job to me. And because I already have 3 jobs (a full-time stay-at-home-mommy, college English Teacher, and partner in The Polka Dot Posie)...I don't need a 4th right now. Now, please know that I don't think there is anything wrong with blogging for money and I think my dear friends Mandy and Jeff have shown just how lucrative this career can be! And if you have the ability to make this your job...GO FOR IT! If I had more free time and the ability to make it a career, I probably would :-)

But for now...I just want to enjoy sitting down with a big cup of coffee (or glass of wine) and writing my heart out. For now...I am happy with keeping my blog a hobby. A hobby that I have stuck with for 4 YEARS!!!!

And I have 1, 273 posts to show for it :-)

So thanks to all of my faithful friends and family who take time out of their day to read my ramblings. Thanks for not abandoning me when I post about Harry Potter or my not-so-pretty mommy moments. Thanks for always offering encouragement and advice, especially when I beg for it :-) Thanks for sharing my blog with others and pinning my crafts on Pinterest. And most of all, thanks for your friendship over the years :-)

Well that's enough sap for one day my friends, and I have definitely reached my quota for links in one post...but I just wanted to say thanks and celebrate this big milestone with all of you who have followed me on this journey.

And really...what better way to say thanks to all of you and celebrate my blogiversary than with a GIVEAWAY!!!!!!

Don't worry...this isn't a follow me, blog me, link up with me type of giveaway. In fact, I am not going to promote this giveaway at all because it is for my readers and only the people who made it through this CRAZY long blogiversary post deserve to enter. Haha!

All you have to do to enter is tell me what your favorite post of all time was on my blog. Was it when I made an ass out of myself in Babies R Us all those years ago? Was it a craft or recipe I posted? Was it when I started the Couch25K program and puked after my first run? Was it the birth of my Blakey Boy? Or better yet...let me know how long you have been following along with the Davis'. If you can tell me the original name of this blog...then I know you've been around for a long time :-) what am I giving away exactly? Well...a gift card to The Polka Dot Posie of course!!!! One of you will win $15 to spend any way you like in our shop! I'll pick a winner on Monday so be sure to get your comments in by Sunday!

Thanks again friends! I heart you all SO SO much!

  1. Love your blog! I'm not sure how I stumbled upon it but I remember that you weren't pregnant with Blake yet. I loved how you announced that Blake was on the way. I laughed at & felt "normal" reading your Twilight posts! Oh, and I love your crafty ideas.
Thanks for blogging & sharing with us!

  2. Hmm....I think my favorite posts were when you were talking about Addi's struggles with Dance Class in the beginning. I remember those because at the same time my daughter was having the same struggles in Gymnastics and so you reminded me that I was not the only one going through that! I honestly don't remember how I found your blog. Most likely one of the nights that I was super bored so I just searched through millions of blogs on Blogger finding ones that looked interesting....who knows. :-)

Thanks for sharing with us! I think you are hilarious and I hope to have 100 followers sometime let alone 400! LOL :-)

  3. I just love your blog! My favorite posts are when you share organization ideas. I absolutely LOVE to organize! You really inspired me to start the Couch to 5K program when you were beginning to run...I really need to get back to it to shed the last of the baby weight. Congratulations on your 4 year anniversary!!

  4. I can't believe it's been 4 years! I believe the name of the blog originally was "Addie and Mommie's Bloggie" I have been reading from the very beginning! I love your blog :) I really don't think I can pick my favorite post. There have been times that I have literally laughed out loud and other times where I have cried reading it. I do always love your post to family for special things like birthdays or anniversaries. They are always so sweet/ funny and filled with awesome pics :) thanks so much for blogging so long!

  5. Congratulations! I came across your blog about a year ago trying to find some tips for digital scrapbooking. Lo and behold, I found the My Memories Suite Jedi! :)

I love your organizational tips and tutorials and you are hilarious! Your blog is about the only one where I laugh out loud while reading!

  6. Girly, I cannot believe it's been 4 years!! :) I started following about 6 months after you started blogging. My favorite posts were when you first started couch 2 5k. Happy blogoversary!

  7. I can't remember how I found your blog, but it was less than a year ago. I think that I read something and actually told my husband, "I read it on one of the big time blogs". Your vlogs are probably my favorite. Hearing someone's voice after you have been reading what they have written is always fun. Happy blogaversary!

  8. I've only known you and your blog abt a month but immediately fell in love! My fav post that I've read was your mommy indulgence vlog, the first one I ever saw :) I just love that you are so real and sincere! Here's to many many blogging years to come!

  9. Hi there,
I was just browsing through blogs and found you. So now, I will make your 350th follower. :-)
    Love your blog.
I was just browsing through your posts and I found one from Saturday June 18, 2011 "Daddies before they were Daddies". I just recently looked at pictures of my husband and our son and they're spitting images of each other. And it's right around Father's Day too:-)

  10. As I haven't been following you for all along, I will have to say "Because I needed a laugh" is my pick because I think it shows your fun personality. I am psycho about those ecards and post them daily on fb. I just love to laugh and so I appreciate reading something that makes me laugh. I said it before but you really show your personality in your posts, especially the vlogs. You just have a genuine personality. You're not the hey look at me, look at what I have, etc., blogger and I appreciate that, so congrats and carry on please! Also, I received my key fob wristlet and it is super cute!

  11. Oh and I only have 5 followers so I say your doing good! Ha! Apparently I am rather boring =)

  12. I have been reading your blog since Addie was about 6 months old. I love that I was able to reconnect with a high school friend who is also a stay at home mommie. Your posts entertain, inform, and keep me laughing. I can relate to so many of them! Happy Blogiversary to you!

  13. Wow I can't believe you have been blogging for 4 years! I have loved reading your posts. It is like a page-a-day book for me that let's me keep in touch with you and your family. I am so glad you have added this to your list of hobbies because I have just loved following. Congrats!

  14. Okay, my new favorite blog is the one you recently did about the swimsuit. I found myself a suit from Athleta, it arrived in the mail today and...I LOVE it! I feel so good in it-even with my "new post-baby bod"! :) Thanks for passing along that little gem.

  15. Four years just flies by, huh?! Wow! I can't remember the original name... But you know I have the old address memorized! And, I remember when you asked for suggestions for a new name. I don't think I could ever pick a favorite post... But one that sticks out is when Jan posted of Blake's arrival! I guess it was just a highly anticipated event around here! :-) I love you and your bloggie! And thanks for not selling out!

  16. It's not been long since I joined you but I love your posts, you are so honest and speak your mind and also funny:)
Congratulations on your Blogoversary! Will keep reading you!

    Enjoy Teaching English

  17. Jen - I've actually been following you since before you had this blog (ok, that makes me sound like a crazy stalker! I promise I'm not!!) I was part of the same Baby Center TTC chat that you were. I remember when you found out that you were pregnant with Addison. I got pregnant with my daughter shortly after. I have been following your blog from the beginning - I can't believe it's been 4 years!. I love reading it everday and I have a lot of favorite posts. I think the one that sticks out most in my mind is the post where you talked about having a "bad mommy" day. I could just really relate to it as I've had a lot of those days myself. It was nice to read your honesty and know that these feelings come with motherhood and that I'm not alone in experiencing them :) Happy Blogiversary and thanks for sharing your life for the past 4 years!

  18. First things first: HAPPY 4TH BLOG ANNIVERSARY HONEY!! What an accomplishment! I haven't even experienced my 1st year, I can't even imagine how great it must feel to know you've SUCCESSFULLY blogged for an entire 4 years! I still think you should have your blog printed into a book to give to Addie when she's 18. I think she'd treasure that and look through it for years to come :) I wish my Mom had done something like that!

As I haven't been on Blogger for THAT long (what the HELL was I doing with myself before this?! Seriously?!) It makes me sad that I can't say "I've loyally followed you since the beginning!!" because had I know about this wonderful Blogging world, and you, I would have. I feel like I've missed out on so much! Boo! But I still remember stumbling across your blog for the first time and immediately deciding I liked you and we had so much in common. You had polka dots as a background, you had the most adorable children ever, you said potty words in your posts (yes, I find comfort in people who say 'shit' every now and a gain haha) and you blogged about having OCD and being OBSESSED with organizing. In fact I specifically remember reading your "Attention Organizing Junkies" post and frantically clicking all of the organizing links you shared. I must have been like a kid on Christmas morning. In addition to that - I later discovered we're both Nutella-heads and I knew we'd get along like a house on fire.

The rest is history - watching your vlogs convinced me to give it a go and since then we've become good friends who text on a daily basis. To be honest, I think you're my best blogger friend and I talk to you more often than I talk to some of my IRL friends. Haha! I can't wait to read more of your posts, get to know you better, and meet up one day for good food (Nutella and Oreos, Lemonies, and RPM Italian) LOTS of wine, and Twilight/Harry Potter-a-thons :)

You rock and I heart you.
Congrats on your blog anniversary, honey. I'm so glad you decided to start this blog, because had you now I wouldn't know you now! :)

  19. I almost missed this,I would have been upset because although you are not one of the like, blog, rss, ect giveaway,mt daughter wins tons of those ,me zilch, but I'm sort of new year ,found you through APG,one of my favorite bloggers and so glad she's back,(she has had a rough time of it) so its hard foe me to choose a blog i love from you.Ive been so busy raising my grand children, and so Just finding out how much you like teaching and the students who love you i choose that reason and that you said I could contact you anytime about my grandsons coming college years ,don't worry ,I won't really. but it was so nice of you to offer.I had a friend once who taught nursing at a local collage.she would ask to exchange her nicotine gum for a smoke --haha we both quit--she was to smart for me!hop[e I win ♥

  20. don't disregard me for bad grammar and bad spelling teacher,I am just a very busy grandma who can't remember to look up when I type because I'm always in a hurry ! lol
