The highlight of our weekend was getting to celebrate with this little munchkin, who is officially ONE today!!! I just don't know where this year has gone little man, but you have turned into one of the cutest, funniest, sweetest little peanuts and we are all so lucky to have you in our lives.
But before we got to celebrate with Owen, we had a pretty packed weekend of fun.
On Friday, we escaped the heat in Nana & Papa's pool. Here is my little princess swimming in her tiara :-)
And while Addie was swimming with her tiara, I was swimming WITHOUT sunscreen. STUPID STUPID STUPID (picture me hitting the side of my head over and over again).
Here's the problem...You know those fish that live at the bottom of the ocean that never see sunlight? They are so pale you can almost see through them?
Well...my legs anyway. My friends and family joke with me ALL. THE. TIME. about how freaking white my legs are. So Friday, I was determined to just get a little sun on them. Clearly I wasn't going to get any color wearing SPF 30 like I usually do, so I went without. I was only going to be out there an hour and my face had SPF so I was covered. I would just tan my legs a little.
Friends...let me just tell ya...my legs got color AND THEN SOME! My legs (and the sides/bottoms of my never-see-the-sun butt cheeks) got color as well. I was burnt to a crisp and I realized, once again, that being tan is NOT WORTH IT! At least not the painful way. And to add insult to injury, I got some of the kids SPF 80 on random parts of my body while applying it on them and I had splotches every where. In fact, if you look closely at the next pic, you can see my arms are two different shades. Nice.
Lesson of the day kids...WEAR FREAKING SUNSCREEN!!
On Saturday, Addie and I got all dressed up and headed to North Central College to see Auntie Mawee graduate with her second Masters Degree!!
It was so great being back at NCC...my old place of employment. I left NCC (and my dream job) 4 years ago to be a stay-at-home-mommy and as much as I miss everyone I used to work with...it's still one of the best decisions I have ever made.
But it was nice seeing the President and listening to him speak. It brought back memories :-)
And of course Mayor Pradel, the coolest guy EVER...gave one of the most lively, animated speeches I have ever seen at a graduation.
But sadly...it was not enough to keep Addie's attention. I sorta forgot how long graduation ceremonies are and I am so thankful I stocked Addie's purse FULL of activities because she had major ants in her pants.
But luckily, we were there to watch Marie get her Masters hood...
And while we waited "patiently" for the ceremony to be done, I got to visit with some of my old work buddies. Here's Ken and Addie...cuddled up having a chat.
And my friend Renee...who was just as stylish as ever. We picked up right where we left off...talking about shoes and Starbucks :-)
And then it was finally time for Marie to come out!!
Addie couldn't wait to give her the flowers she picked out.
SO PROUD of her.
Her special graduation shoes :-)
Marie with her darling brother and sister. And Addie of course :-)
I am SO proud of you Marie!!!
After our morning of graduation fun, Addie and I got home just in time for COUSINS SLEEPOVER!
Mima and Papa Steve invited Addie and Nia over for a fun night of pizza making, ice cream eating and Nemo watching. These two are just too cute together.
Once again, you are probably wondering where Blake was during all this fun and he was actually with Daddy having a "guys day". They fished, they swam, they went to Home Depot and then Blake got to do his favorite thing ever...take a bath ALONE!!
Well...not totally alone. McQueen and Mater were there. Big shocker.
Sunday was one of those fabulous days where all the kids slept in! But do you know what Dana and I were doing while everyone was sleeping? We were running 9 miles.
I gotta tell you...I am super happy we burned that many calories because I knew Owen's birthday party was just hours away :-)
I have been really looking forward to giving O his special birthday gift...
Equipped with the perfect license plate. Since Owen is a big guy (the biggest guy in his daycare), the teachers like to call him "The Body Guard" because he watches out for all the little kids. I thought these were the perfect plates for our little (big) dude :-)
Not that I expected any less, but Meagan and her mom and sister did a FABULOUS job with all of Owen's party decorations. From the adorable cupcakes...
To the handmade tissue poms...
To the banners and kiddie take-home bags...
Things could not have been cuter. And Ryan also put together this collage of all Owen's monthly pictures. I can't believe how much he has grown!!!
And here's Mommy with her Birthday Boy...
It was 93 degrees today so Aunt Meagan and Uncle Ryan knew it was a smart idea to put out some sprinklers.
Let me just tell ya...Blake is obsessed with sprinklers right now and you have to look at his face in this picture. Priceless.
The kids spent most of the party running around...
That is of course until it was CAKE TIME!
This little guy did SO well with his cake. He was a little preoccupied listening to everyone sing...
But as soon as Mommy started helping him out...
He got the hang of it and dug right in on his own.
You did it Ryan and Meg! You survived the first year of parenthood!!!
I realized tonight that I was not in a single picture. Well, except maybe on my Dad's camera roll. Ha!
But this guys wasn't really feelin pictures by the end of the party. Who can blame him. He just wanted Mama.
See...much better :-)
But he did manage to score one happy face for Nana and Papa. YAY!!!
Such a fun party today.
I still can't believe our little man is a year old. Time just goes WAY too fast!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY OWEN!!!! We all love you SO MUCH buddy! Enjoy your birthday at school today!!
