4th of July Marathon of Fun

Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!!! Is it just me or does it feel strange with the 4th in the middle of next week? I am guessing everyone is going to be celebrating for the next 8 days. Ha!

We have a LOT of fun planned this weekend, and it SHOULD have started last night. After our playdate we got the kids all packed up and headed out to our campground. As soon as we walked into our camper we knew...the POWER was out!!! Apparently a transformer blew and all campers were without power. Which meant no A/C on the hottest day of the summer so far.

No thanks. I draw the line there.

Obviously, we packed up shop and headed home. We are hoping everything is all fixed and ready to go for the rest of the weekend!! Our club has the BEST Fireworks show ever and we can't wait to watch it tomorrow night. Glad the rain is here now :-)

In addition to some more holiday camping, we are also going to my cousin's daughter Gracie's 5th Birthday party! It's for Princesses AND Superheroes so she asked me to make a special invite. Didn't it turn out so cute?

Addie is all set with her Snow White dress and Blake will be flying in Super Man gear :-) It's going to be a lot of fun.

And speaking of 4th of July weekend, we couldn't POSSIBLY go without a special holiday coupon code for all of you at ThePolkaDotPosie!!!

This offer is also good on custom invites, cupcake toppers, and more. If you need an invite for a birthday party, shower, BBQ or other special occasion and don't see one in our shop that you like...please send me an e-mail! I love doing custom work and the 10% will apply :-)

Happy Weekend everyone! Stay cool, stay safe and have FUN!!!!

Our BIG Playdate

When 5 mommies get together with 11 children under the age of 5 for a playdate...it only seems right to celebrate the occasion with a little morning cocktail.

My friend Sarah suggested we have mimosas and let me tell you...they hit the spot!!

It's creeping up on 102 degrees right now in IL, which is why we started our playdate outside...when it was still cool enough to handle. The kids didn't mind the heat AT ALL!

And honestly...neither did we. Those cocktails really kept us cool :-)

Even baby Gus was content outside in the shade :-)

He was busy watching all the crazy kids running around the yard. Some were busy sliding...

Some were busy cleaning...

And some were busy digging in the mulch.

But when the clouds parted and then sun really started beating down...even the kids were sick of the heat. So in we went to our basement playroom. It's nice and cool and the kids can trash the place all they want :-)

Nolan cooked up some food for everyone...

Here is one of his happy customers.

These two crack me up.

Such goofballs.

So while the boys cooked, Evie took a horsie ride...

Addie and Nia played fashion design school...

Presley took a cruise...

And Audrey did some bouncing. With her purse.

And then it was lunch time!!! Figuring out how and where to feed 11 kids was a little tricky. But these cafeteria style plates from Target ALWAYS come in handy.

And the best way to get them to all eat together is to have a carpet picnic!!

The kids ate for about 4 minutes before it was time for dress-up and popsicles. I'll tell ya...it's a good thing they are all so darn cute :-)

The kids had a blast together today and I am so happy that we decided to do this. All of us mommies even got to sit down around the same table and enjoy our lunch. That NEVER happens. Ever. So it was a rare treat :-)

Thanks so much for joining me today Katie, Aimee, Dana and Kris!

Stop & Smell the Roses {Week 18} A Vloggie Date

Happy Wednesday Guys!!! It's week 18 of

and I am VERY excited to be linking up with House of Rose today because there is a special vlog waiting for you over at Nina's Peace Love & Good Food!

She took the video and I snapped the pictures :-)

And because this is Stop & Smell the Roses... I just want to say how THANKFUL I am for having had the chance to sneak away for a fabulous girls lunch with this pretty lady.

This little meet-up was several months in the making it seems. Between busy schedules, my kids and the fact that Nina is MOVING this week...it was hard to coordinate things. But we finally made it happen and I am so glad we did!!!

Nina and I met at a halfway point between our two towns which landed us in Dwight, IL. SUPER small town that I've actually driven through a thousand times. I had always stopped there for gas or a quick drive through meal on my way to Central or Southern Illinois, but I had never really done my research to see what else this cute little town had to offer.

After chatting with some other friends and doing a little google search, I came across a fabulous place called The Country Mansion.

It was the PERFECT spot for our a sweet little outdoor lunch date.

Our food was delicious, our wine was perfect and you couldn't beat the company :-)

If you have ever had the privilege of meeting a blog or internet friend in real life, then you know just how exciting it is to finally sit down with them and have a real conversation. Nina and I learned so much about each other in the few short hours we spent at lunch and all it did was prove what I already knew...she is a total sweetheart and SO funny! As you will see from our silly vlog, we were like two little giggling school girls the whole time. Ha!

I am SO SO happy that her and I made this date happen before she heads off to Charlotte and I sincerely hope that there is another girls trip in our near future!!

Thanks for the great date honey!! You definitely made me smile this week :-)

NOW...before you head over and watch our video, bear in mind two things:

1. I was really, REALLY excited to be eating a meal without my kids.
2. I was drinking wine.
3. Did I mention I was excited?

I am so obnoxious in this video but Nina is a doll and it was all in good fun. Enjoy our little plug for Dwight, IL and The Country Mansion!!!

Sometimes & Always

After weeks of telling Amanda I was going to do it, I am finally linking up with Macky Madness for

Sometimes: I decide to take the day off from the Internet.
Always: I'm standing at the kitchen counter waiting for the kids to finish breakfast and I can't resist the urge to grab my phone and check my email. Or Facebook. Or Twitter. It's a sickness.

Sometimes: I get sick of camping. The dirt everywhere, the bugs, the teeny tiny shower, the hotdogs...dear GOD the hotdogs...
Always: We head out to the campground and sit around a warm fire eating gooey marshmallows with two dirty kids on our laps and I say, "This is the life". And it really is :-)

Sometimes: I vow to keep a secret (and I am speaking specifically of my own secrets. The ones I have the authority to tell if I want to).
Always: I can't wait 5 seconds before I am spilling the beans to someone, whether it's something small like showing them their gift before Christmas, or something big like telling our family that we were pregnant with Addie and Blake before the word "pregnant" had fully developed on the test. None of you ever have to fear that I'm keeping secrets because it's official. I can't keep them.

Sometimes: I say I want a break from my kids.
Always: I'm already missing them as I pull out of the driveway.

Sometimes: I say I'm going to stop eating so much garbage.
Always: I pin some fantastically sweet dessert on Pinterest and 5 minutes later I am dipping Hershey's chocolate squares in a tub of peanutbutter.

Sometimes: I say I am going to wait until after Thanksgiving to start talking about Christmas.
Always: I realize that's bullshit and I look at the calendar to see how much longer I have to wait to put my tree up. And then when I realize that we are halfway to Christmas, I turn on a little Bing Crosby in my car and Eric and I take the kids to feed reindeer :-)

Sometimes: I take my Mom for granted.
Always: I realize 2 seconds after making fun of her for calling herself "Super Nana" that she REALLY IS Super Nana and I don't know what any of us would do without her in our lives. I love you mama and I appreciate you more than you know!!!

Okay...this Sometimes and Always stuff is fun!!! I just might have to do this every week :-)

Free 4th of July Printable & Treat Ideas at The Polka Dot Posie today!

Happy Monday everyone...if there is such a thing :-)

We just got done with our first day of summer camp and then celebrated with a lunch date at "Old McDonalds". My cousin Krissy and her three kiddies met us there too and we had a great time!

It dawned on the two of us today that we have a family 4th of July party coming up this weekend!! Our family has a ton of kids right now so I really want to make a treat for the party that is super easy and kid friendly. I love the idea of oreo pops or rice crispy cut-outs.

And of course, no treat-on-a-stick is complete without a cute holiday tag!! So I went ahead and created a sheet of free 4th of July printable tags and you can head on over to The Polka Dot Posie for the download link, as well as a few additional links to all the yummy treats I talked about.

Enjoy!!

Our Weekend in a Nutshell: Movie in the Park, a First Date, A 60th Birthday Surprise and a Girl's Day!

Holy crap. Was that title long enough for you today? Ha! We really had one heck of a weekend and I didn't want to leave anything out :-)

Our weekend actually started on Thursday (which seems to be the case every week in the summer :-)

This Thursday, our town hosted Movie in the Park. They do this once a month but a lot of times, the movies aren't really appealing to our kids' ages. But this time...they had a VERY special movie planned. So all of us packed up our blankets and headed out to the park.

This guy was more excited than anyone, and you'll see why later :-)

Addie could really care less about the movie, she was just ready to chow on some popcorn and rope licorice. And so was I :-)

The only problem with seeing a movie in the park on the longest day of the year is that it takes FOREVER to get dark. Thank goodness the kids were so patient.

Our new town hall has the BEST set-up for movies in the park.

They are going to host Movie in the Park once a month this summer, and even though Ghostbusters will TOTALLY appeal to my dad and I...the kids won't really get into it. So I guess it's a good thing that Thursday night's feature was....drumbroll...CARS 2!!!!

Blake was beside himself with excitement.

For about 20 minutes.

Then when his skittles ran out and the popcorn bag was empty...it was time to head home. I guess it's a good thing we've already seen this movie 6,897,321 times.

So Thursday night was a success in my book. The kids were happy, we had a lot of fun, and the kids slept in the next day! Woohoo!

That was actually great for me because I had myself a little "first date" on Friday with my bloggy friend Nina. It was a long time coming and we had a FABULOUS lunch! But more on that Wednesday when we share our ridiculously funny vlog :-)

On Saturday, it was more family fun. My Aunt Kathy turned the big 6-0 and we all showed up for her surprise party!

She honestly had no idea this party was planned, and you can tell by her genuine hugs...

And tears of joy :-)

My cousins Jill and Scott through her a fabulous retro Beatles party.

Aren't these twinkie "yellow submarines" adorable?!!

My cousin Jill...

And my cousin Jeff...

Did a FABULOUS job with the party. And I am sure Ben helped a lot too :-)

It was great getting to see everybody that day, especially my cousin Scott's little peanut Natalie, who turned ONE two weeks ago :-)

And of course Addie was thrilled to see everyone and chat their ears off :-)

My Aunt Kathy got a ton of great gifts, including this Mini Grab & Go Camera Bag from The Polka Dot Posie. haha!

After gifts, it was time to dig into that beautiful cake. Too bad Jill used trick candles and it took FOREVER to blow them out :-)

Little Natalie didn't even wait. She just dove right into this coconut bar :-)

So it was hotter than shiz this weekend. I love summer...but seriously...this heat has got to let up some. Thank goodness the kids could care less about it. They just like being able to splash around in their pool all day :-)

In between all the fun this weekend, I was also able to squeeze in a very big run. We were all up at the crack of dawn today...

And managed to run 10 MILES!!!!

I know this is only 1 mile longer than my last long run, but to me this is a HUGE milestone. Double digits baby!!! And the foot felt great the entire time and still does tonight. I've had so many accomplished half-marathoners (Chelle) that have told me that if I can make it to 10 miles...I can make it to 13.

So we are on our way friends!!!! I am so excited and so proud of myself for making it this far.

***

And finally...after a very long weekend...I got to have a little girls day with my mom and sis-in-law Meagan today. We headed to the city and stopped for a DELICIOUS lunch at Butcher and The Burger

Best. Hamburgers. EVER!!!!!!

After a fabulous lunch, we unbuttoned our pants and headed over to 1154 LILL Studio to design a purse!!!

The three of us bought an amazingly awesome Living Social deal for this purse shop back in March and we've been dying to get here to create something special.

Jan had a seriously hard time committing to a bag. You know...considering she can MAKE everything that was in the store. Haha! But in the end, we all found something fabulous and we can't wait to get our goodies in 3 weeks :-)

We ended our little girls day with a delicious Coconut Frap from Strabucks. It was SUCH a fun day. I really don't know why we don't do that more often. Ladies...let's change that :-)

***

So that was our weekend in a nutshell friends. We have an INSANE week ahead filled with lots of fun and Addie starts summer camp tomorrow. WOOHOO! My little crafter can't wait to break out the glue and glitter. I better clear the fridge and stock up on magnets :-)

I hope you all had a great weekend too!!
