Blake is 2 Months Old!!!

Even though the calendar says my baby boy is 2 months old today, I honestly feel like he is much older than that. Maybe it's because I already can't picture what life was like without him. Maybe it's because he is already smiling, lifting his head and trying to roll over. Or maybe it's because he is already over 13 pounds!!!! Just look at those precious chubby cheeks! adorable did these pictures turn out? I am so thankful Ryan suggested we get some 2 month shots of Blake the other day because he was SO smiley and happy! I just love this little bugger to death!

This month has been filled with some wonderful milestones. We witnessed countless smiles, our first laugh, our first attempt at rolling over, of all...we've learned to sleep a little longer at night!!! Although, that has only been for the past 4 nights or so. I am hoping we have turned over a new leaf because this mama really needs more sleep :-)

As for the other stats like weight/height, I have a doc appointment scheduled for the kids on Wednesday (Blake's 2 month/Addie's 2 year) so I will be sure to report on those then. In fact, there will be LOTS to report this week as we lead up to my baby girl's birthday!!! Stay tuned for lots of pics, some fun surprises from Nana and Papa and a little recap of Addie's second year :-)

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Happy Birthday Daddy-O

I am sure it feels like only yesterday that you held me as a baby...

And I'm sure you can still remember the days you took me to the zoo...

I know walking me down the isle was a moment I will never forget...

Much like the moment you held your first grandbaby...

And your second grandbaby...

And I know you say you're an "Old man now", but if the next 56 years are as great as your first...then we have lots to look forward to Daddy-O. I know I say it all the time, but I really am the luckiest girl in the world to have a Daddy as great as you!

2-Year-Olds and Photoshoots Don't Mix

My fabulous on-call photographer, Uncle Ryan, drove out once again this week to take pictures of his favorite niece. Everyone warned me that 2-year-olds aren't very cooperative for pictures and you know what...they were right!

The funny thing is...Addie was pretty patient with me while she was getting ready. When I told her it was time to do her hair, she stood right at her mirror and let me begin.

Even when I pulled her hair too tight...

She let me finish the other side...

She even let me use hairspray!

But when I realized that I had left a small piece out of her pigtail and needed to start over...she bolted. And hid between the couch and ottoman. Her favorite place...

All I had to say was, "Want some Nemo fruit snacks?" and she was out...

As I said, the photoshoot did not go well. Addie was all over the place and refused to smile or stand still for two seconds. She just wanted to jump on Uncle Ryan, chase Howie, eat Nemo fruit snacks, etc. When my brother left...I was sure that he hadn't gotten any good shots of her. But thanks to a quick trigger and the magic of photoshop...Uncle Ryan got one BEAUTIFUL shot of peanut!

Even though Addie's 2-year photoshoot was a bust, Blake's impromptu photoshoot was an amazing success!!! He was all smiles and I honestly can't decide which picture I like best. will have to wait to see those until tomorrow :-)

Happy Thursday Friends!

Weigh-In Wednesday: A Healthy Cookie that Actually Tastes Good!

It was another successful week on WW and if you can believe it...I actually managed to work out 4 times!!! I am very proud of myself. I used the elliptical machine we have in our basement and even though I could only do about 20 minutes before the side cramps started, it was still progress! I would like to work out 4 days again this week and try to increase my time/resistance. Also, I have a book called "Post Pregnancy Pilates" that I bought at a used bookstore for $1 after I had Addie. I have never looked through it or tried any of the moves, but I might give it a whirl this week. Oh how I wish my beautiful, talented, Pilates instructor cousin didn't move to St. Louis. Come back Diane...I need to hire you as a personal trainer!

So...the diet portion of my program has been going well, but I just can't seem to get over my addiction to sweets. They call to me in the middle of the night. And in the afternoon. And in the morning. And just about any time I think about an M&M or cookie. So I went out on a search for some healthy cookie recipes and I found a great one by Weight Watchers. I was a little skeptical at first but I have to say...these are delicious! Here is the recipe incase you want to try it out yourself.

Oatmeal Raisin Bites

1 1/2 cup(s) rolled oats
3/4 cup(s) whole-grain wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp table salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup(s) butter, softened
1/4 cup(s) sugar
1/2 cup(s) packed brown sugar
1 large egg(s)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup(s) raisins, chopped

Preheat oven to 350ºF

In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon; set aside. Using an electric mixer, cream butter and both sugars until incorporated. Add egg and vanilla; mix thoroughly. Add oat mixture and mix until just combined; fold in raisins.

Drop rounded teaspoons of batter onto 2 ungreased cookie sheets, about 1-inch apart each. Bake for 9 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies or 11 to 12 minutes for crispy cookies. Remove from oven and let cookies rest on cookie sheets for about 2 minutes; remove cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Yields 1 cookie per serving.

Be sure to let me know if you try this recipe!! And of course, please feel free to share any delicious sweet treat recipes you might have :-)

Monkey See, Monkey Do

It amazes me how Addie has taken an interest in so many things that she never seemed to care about. For example, she has never taken a binkie in her life. I tried when she was a baby but she wanted nothing to do with it. But now that Blake uses one, she has to play with one too. Also, she never liked her swing. Ever. And now, she insists on getting in the swing when Blake is out of it. Go figure :-)

So for the past week or so, Blake has really taken a liking to his gym. I put him under it all the time and he just laughs and kicks and looks at his cute little face in the mirror. And wouldn't you know...someone else has taken a liking to the gym. Can you guess who?

It's like monkey see, monkey do around here :-) Now if only I could get Blake to copy her and start sleeping the night. Ha!

I know I have spent a LOT of time complaining about winter lately, so I thought I would take this opportunity to say something positive. For me, winter (or crappy weather) = productiveness. The snow and the cold keep us inside and when we are kept inside, especially when Eric is home on the weekends, it means I can get something done! And I am happy to say I got several things done for Addie's party this weekend!

Like I said, there isn't much for me to do since the bouncy house peeps are taking care of food, decorations and set-up. wouldn't be a kids birthday party without goodie bags!! I found some great stuff in the Target dollar bins lately (Like Happy Birthday Elmo coloring books and packages of spring colored play dough) and I finally put it all together. I think the bags turned out pretty cute!

I needed to use a larger bag because of the coloring book, so I bought these at Target. They were $5 for 12 bags. Not too bad if you ask me. And then I used little foam letters to put each of the kids names on the bag. I thought that was a nice touch, especially since all the kids can go up and claim their bag. Addie is all about having her own things :-)

And speaking of the Birthday Princess, I also spent some time this weekend trying on different outfits for her two year pictures (which Uncle Ryan will be taking in the near future). At one point, Addie ran out of my bedroom in one of her outfits and came back with some of her own accessories...

See...told you I have a little princess on my hands. Ha! I am not sure how this photoshoot will go, since 2-year-olds seem to be impossible to work with when it comes to pictures. But I suppose if I let her wear her crown and heels...she will be good to go :-)

Fridays are Still Fabulous

When I became a SAHM a year and a half ago, it didn't take long before the days started running together. I never knew what day it was. Mondays felt like Wednesdays, Wednesdays felt like Tuesdays, etc. But for some reason, Fridays still felt like Fridays. Maybe it's because Fridays are my favorite day of the week because I know I have the whole weekend to look forward too, I know Eric will get off work on time, and I usually skip cooking and order a pizza. Ha! I also try to skip running errands or doing other not-fun things if I can help it because afterall...Fridays are suppose to be FUN! So instead of cleaning, doing laundry or cooking, we...

Hang out in our PJs...

Have a Tickle Fest and laugh our little asses off...

Smother each other with lots of hugs and kisses...

And jump on mommy and daddy's bed. All afternoon. (Don't worry...I picked Blake up before she started to jump. Ha!)

I am hoping this weekend will be a lot of the same since it is our LAST weekend without some sort of commitment for the next two months. Yikes! But at least these commitments are birthday parties, family parties, dinners and get togethers with friends. It just means we will all have to get dressed on Friday for a change :-)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

Just Monkeying Around

When Eric's cousin Katie and I found out we were having boys, we took a trip to the Carter's store to stock up on some manly outfits :-) We came across the CUTEST little monkey outfit and we figured if we both bought it, we could get a picture of the boys in it when they arrived. Well, Dana and Eric's cousin Maggie both thought the outfits were so cute...they bought the same ones for their boys!! We have been waiting months to get this picture and we finally managed to get a few shots during our playdate yesterday! CUTE are these boys?

I am actually pretty impressed that we got such good pictures, considering putting two 8-week-olds, an 11-month-old and a 1-year-old on a couch together was no easy task :-)

So when we were done with the boy's photoshoot, the girls wanted to hop up for a quick "cousins" picture. Isn't little Nolan a ham?!! I just love him to pieces.

Here he is hamming it up again. He looks so big! I just can't believe my little Godson is going to be 1 YEAR OLD next month!!!! Where does the time go?

And speaking of little peanut is going to be 2 in about 2 weeks!!! AHH!! I have it pretty easy this year having Addie's party at the bouncy house, but I do want to put together some really cute goodie bags for the kids and I have been collecting little things for a while. I will be sure to post my great finds later just in case you have a kiddie party coming up :-)

Well that's all for today friends! Happy Thursday!

Weigh-In Wednesday: Healthy Slow Cooker Meal

It was another successful week on the "nursing mommy's" version of Weight Watchers and I lost another 2 pounds! Woohoo! I am very excited to see the scale going down but I have to admit...I am just a little frustrated that I can't actually see the difference yet. I know 4 pounds isn't much, but considering I have lost all my baby weight plus two would think it would show more than it does.

Now, I know this is a very slow process and I need to be patient. I have to remember that it took me nine months to rearrange my body and it will probably take at least that much time to put it back together (at least that is how it was after Addie). I guess the only reason I feel the need to rush this is because I have a whole closet full of clothes that are just a few pounds and a few inches away from being able to fit again. But in the mean time, I have to continue to wear the same 2 sweaters and t-shirts that I have been wearing since I had Blake. I wouldn't call myself a fashionista...but I do like to dress cute and this muffin top I am walking around with is not working for me anymore. Ha!

Oh well...I will get there soon enough, especially if I stick to my healthy eating plan. It is encouraging to keep losing weight, even though I don't feel like I am starving myself at all. That is why I still believe that Weight Watchers is the best diet ever...even for nursing mamas :-) Now if I could just find the damn time (and motivation) to exercise!!!

So, as promised, I wanted to share another great healthy recipe with you. If you are a fan of will love this one. It is from my Betty Crocker cookbook and at only 120 calories and 0 grams of is a winner for anyone looking to eat healthy :-) And if you want to add some calories, this would be delicious with some crusty bread and butter. Yum!

1 can (28 ounces) plum tomatoes
4 medium red potatoes, cut into 1.2-inch pieces
4 medium stalks celery, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
3 medium carrots, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
2 medium parsnips, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
2 medium leeks, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons cold water

1. Drain tomatoes, reserving liquid. Cut up tomatoes. Mix tomatoes, reserved liquid and remaining ingredients except cornstarch and water in 4-5 quart slow cooker.

2. Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours until veggies are tender.

3. Mix cornstarch and water; gradually stir into slow cooker until blended. Cover and cook on high heat setting about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

There's Hope Yet

Is it just me, or does this winter feel like it is lasting FOREVER???!!!!! I know it is lasting as long as every other winter, but I am just SO over the cold and snow. But...I believe there's hope yet. I was looking back through my archives today and saw this picture of Addie and I from last February...

Yes...Addie is in a Spring coat, I am without my coat, AND we are outside taking a walk!!!! I know randomly warm days in February are far and few between, but a girl can dream can't she?

Family Game Night

Its been about three years since Eric and I got together with my brother and sister-in-law to play some cards. Between work, crazy schedules, kids, ect. we could never seem to make it happen. But finally...Diana and I set a date for family game night. Our game of choice? Euchre. And in order to have two free hands to play, we lured Grandma and Grandpa over with some steaks :-) Though to be honest...I don't think they needed much convincing :-)

Here is how Grandma's multi-task...

I wish I could say it was that easy to keep the kids entertained, but Addie wanted some attention from Uncle "Ado" and Aunt "Di Di"too.

But once the kids were finally asleep, it was game time. Adam needed a little refresher course, so here is Professor Eric teaching him the ropes.

And here is Uncle Joe...happy as always to have his picture taken (Copyright 2010...that's for you Joe! :-) And since this is a family blog, I did smear out his hand gesture :-) I'll just tell the kids he was giving a thumbs up.

And like all family events, Howie wanted to join in too. Although, when he realized there was no food on the table...he folded.

Its amazing how long it takes to schedule a night like this, but I sure hope we can do it again soon! Thanks for a fun night gang! And thanks to my two peanuts for sleeping through the game so mommy and daddy could play :-)

Happy Valentine's Day

It is a gorgeous, sunny Valentine's Day and the kiddies were up bright and early this morning. I haven't made a special breakfast in a while, so I thought I would bust out the waffle maker for a special treat. Let me just tell you...these tasted even better than they look...

After breakfast, Daddy and Addie opened their cards...

Eric and I decided not to get each other gifts today because we are technically exchanging at the end of the month when I can go get my iPhone. He also has his eye on something at Gander Mountain (God only knows what) so we decided that it would be cards only today. Although, I could have even done without the cards because honestly...these two peanuts are the best Valentine's Day gift any mommy could ask for...

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Grandma Scores A Smile Pic!

It wasn't easy...but Grandma Mueller scored the first picture of Blake smiling!!!! Woohoo!!! Patience was key in this process. At first he wanted nothing to do with this whole photoshoot...

And then he started warming up to the idea...

Here it comes...

There is just nothing sweeter than a baby's first few smiles. He gives them all the time now, just not for the camera (of course :-) But now I have one picture I can use in his baby book. Thanks Grams!!! You're the best!

This is How Daddy Multi-Tasks

Today was a very looooong day for this mama. Naptime was nonexistent for both Addie and Blake. Well, Blake slept several times, but only if I was holding him. Now, I have learned to handle one needy child but I have yet to master the art of catering to two needy children at the same time. My only solution today was the Baby Bjorn. It was a life saver. Blake could sleep while I played with Addie in her room. Perfect.

When Daddy got home, I quickly passed Blake off so that I could make dinner. Eric liked the idea of carrying him around in the Bjorn because it meant he could take a work call AND drink a beer at the same time. This, my friends, is how a man multi tasks.

When Addie goes to sleep tonight, picture me holding Blake the same way, but replace the beer with a glass of wine and the phone with a Milky Way Midnight bar. I think I have earned a few extra points :-)

Weigh-In Wednesday: Baby Weight Gone & Another Sweet Recipe

You read correctly friends...thanks to the 2 pounds I lost this week (and the 25 pounds I have lost since having Blake)...I am now at my PRE-BABY WEIGHT! Woohoo! But before we get too excited, lets remember that I was about 12 pounds heavier than I wanted to be when I got pregnant. So I still have a little ways to go. But least it's progress!!

Now, to reward myself for a job well done, I wanted to indulge in my favorite dessert...a banana spilt. YUM!!! But at around 25 Weight Watchers points (thats almost a whole day for a nursing mom, and more than a day for everyone else)...I decided I needed to go with a less fattening option. So, going back through my Real Simple recipes, I found this one...

Frozen Yogurt Sundae with Bananas and Chocolate Sauce

Serves 4Hands-On Time: 10mTotal Time: 10m

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pint low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt
  • 2 bananas, sliced
  • 1/4 cup unsalted roasted almonds, chopped

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and cocoa. Gradually whisk in ¼ cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring, until slightly thickened, 2 to 3 minutes. Let cool slightly.

Divide the frozen yogurt and bananas among bowls and top with the chocolate sauce and almonds

This recipe turns out to be 7 Weight Watchers points (362 calories, 10g of fat, and 4g of fiber) and if you have that to spare, it is delicious!! But if you want to shave off another 3 points, you can opt for Hershey's Sugar Free chocolate syrup.

I could seriously eat one of these every single day!! Sweets are my total weakness. Do any of you have any great low-cal/fat dessert recipes that almost taste like the real thing? I would love for you to share :-)

Today's Weigh-In: 152 pounds
Total pounds lost: 27
Goal: 140 pounds
Left to lose: 12 pounds

This was a very successful week, but now I need to get serious about exercising because I know that eating healthy alone won't get rid of the belly. But I need to be realistic so this week's goal is for me to exercise two days this week. We will see how it goes :-)

Happy Birthday Ry-O!

To my brother Ryan on his birthday...

You and I have always been like two peas in a pod. From playing "office" as kids, to showing off our "talents" in high school...

You and I have stuck together. You have always been more than a brother to have been one of my best friends. You have always looked out for me and been there for me when I needed you.

And now that you are an Uncle, I see why I love and respect you so much. The way you take care of Addie and Blake and take time to see them and be a part of their lives is very special to me. And I know it is special to them too. Addie is 100% in love with her Uncle Ryan...

And even though Blake can't show it yet...I know he feels the same way :-)

You are making one hell of a husband Ry, and I know you are going to make an amazing Daddy one day too.

I know you don't handle sappy, emotional posts well so with that...I will just say Happy Birthday! May all your wishes come true this year. Love you bunches!!

* P.S. Sorry about posting our dorky high school picture...but I had to do it! Look out Adam...your birthday is coming soon too. Ha!
