Spring Cleaning

Lots of spring cleaning going on around here! I was SICK TO DEATH of looking at snowflakes, so I thought it was time to spruce up the old blog tonight. But like with any cleaning project, I found a lot more mess than I realized was there. Old links, old pictures, disorganization...blah! So I am spending my "blog time" this evening doing some spring cleaning and I hope to have a fresh, organized site by tomorrow (or the day after :-)

And's Addie's birthday week which means there will be lots of fun posts ahead :-) I've also made some (but not much) progress in the sleep department thanks to all of your wonderful suggestions! I think it's just going to take some time to get into this new routine but I have faith that we will get there. More to come...

Watching the Oscars tonight made me realize that I have been a pretty ungrateful blog award winner :( Over the past year, I have had a handful of wonderful bloggy friends present me with various awards and although I have tried to thank these friends...I often don't follow up with any sort of acceptance speech or acknowledgment of the honor. I do feel VERY guilty about that because these people took time to visit my blog and say something nice about it. all the wonderful ladies that have nominated me for something special over the past year, thank you so very much. It means a great deal to be recognized and I promise to be a better commenter and friend in the future :-)

Now, to hold up my promise, I thought I should at least acknowledge my most recent award from my bloggy friend Lauren over at La La Land.

Thanks so much for the honor girlfriend! It's been great getting to know you and your precious family.

Now, there are some "rules" when winning and accepting this award, and they are:

1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you
2. Share 7 things about yourself
3. Award your own recently discovered great bloggers
4. Contact those bloggers and tell them about the award

7 Things About Myself
I feel like I have a lot of lists "About Me" floating around in my archives so I don't want to repeat myself. I actually thought it might be fun to stick with the "Awards" theme and tell you about some of the awards I have won in my life, since you might not know about them. Trust me...they are all VERY impressive {insert sarcasm}

Class Clown: I was awarded class clown in junior high and believe it or not, I thought this was a HUGE deal at the time! I spent most of my junior high years not knowing where I fit in. I wasn't popular, but I wasn't a total dork either. I was a floater...I floated from group to group and I suppose the only positive thing about this is that I was never labeled one thing or another. But at the same time, I did often wonder if anyone ever really noticed me. So to win this award and have my friends tell me I was funny was very special :-)

Miss Congeniality: To be honest...I didn't even know what this award meant when I was presented with it by my Pom coach. I thought it was a random, made-up award that was given to me so I didn't feel left out. Haha! But my coach explained that she gave it to me because I was "fun, sociable and outgoing". Made-up award or not, I felt pretty flattered :-)

Best-Dressed: I wasn't in the running for "Most Likely to Succeed" or "Most Gifted Student" (I can't even type that with a straight face) so I suppose that is why my mom was so excited about this award. I think she was just happy that all the money she spent on clothes was not going to waste. Haha! But seriously...that award didn't mean nearly as much to me in high school as it does now. Sitting here in my mommy sweats with a messy ponytail...I can look back on a time when I had style and the energy to put myself together every day. One day I hope I can be in the running for that award again :-)

Employee of the Year: I worked for Pier 1 Imports for 6 years while I was in college and grad school and I was awarded "Employee of the Year" 2 years in a row. I had the BEST boss in the entire world so when I say I actually enjoyed going to work...I mean it. She rocked. I guess that is why I always worked so hard when I was there. I felt like I owed it to her for always being so understanding of my crazy college schedule. Plus...I liked retail. I liked working with customers all day and helping them decorate their house. Plus, the FABULOUS discount I got wasn't bad either. Oh how I wish I still had that :-)

Gosh...this was FUN!!! I am sort of wishing I had some prestigious award to add to my list, but oh well. This is who I am. I'm silly and outgoing, I use to dress really cute and I'm a hard worker. I'll take it :-) Do any of you have any fun or impressive awards that you have received over the years? I would love to hear about them :-)

Before I go, I must award some other great bloggers. I wouldn't say any of these are "recently discovered", but I read them and enjoy them very much :-)

I have a TON of other great blogs that I read on a regular basis, so if you really want to see a complete list of all my favorites, see my sidebar :-)

Thanks again for the award Lauren!

Happy Birthday Pops!!!! always say that, "getting old is hell" and I guess in some ways it is. For one thing, you get more forgetful as the years go buy and start doing silly things. Luckily, you have never done anything as silly as leave your phone on your bumper and drive away. Oh did. It's already happening Pops! Ahh!!

But hey, there's also a positive side to getting older. I mean just think...if we didn't age and move on with our lives (and fashion trends)....we would all still be dressed like this...

And if we didn't grow up, we wouldn't be able to experience all the joys that come with each new chapter of our lives. You've been able to witness all three of your kid's weddings and become a Grandpa not once...

But twice.

And in July, you'll become a Grandpa for the THIRD time!!

Being older also means that you get to pass on your wisdom to your kids and grandkids...

And believe me Dad, you have taught me more than you will ever realize. When I say I am lucky to have you, I mean it with all my heart.

We hope you have a wonderful birthday Pops!!! Love you and can't wait to see you later today :-)

To Sleep, Or Not to Sleep...

Aren't kids so angelic when they sleep?

Maybe the sight of a sleeping child is so special to me because sleep has never come easy for my kids. They aren't sleepers. Never have been, and I assume, never will be...until they are teenagers of course. Although, I was always a light sleeper and I rarely needed more than a few hours of sleep a night. In college they use to call me the "Jenerator" because I just kept going and going. I wish I had that same energy now. Sigh...

So around 10 months, when Addie finally started sleeping the night, I thought I was home free. That was the hard part. Infancy. Now that she was a toddler and sleeping the night EVERY night, I wouldn't have to worry about her anymore.

So when Blake started sleeping the night a month or so ago, I thought I was finally out of the woods. I would be able to crawl into bed for the night and not get out until the first cry in the morning. I know illness, teeth, and the occasional sugar/party high would result in wake-ups, but on average I expected my kids to be over the difficult sleep age. Well...not so much.

Addison is starting to resist napping and bedtime. For the past month, she has only been taking 3-4 naps a week and just this past week...she only napped 2 times. I suppose this would be okay IF she was getting a good nights sleep. But she isn't. Because she goes to bed SO tired from not having a nap, she is restless and wakes up 2-4 times a night. Sometimes its to go to the bathroom, sometimes its because she is scared of a shadow, sometimes its because of a boo-boo and sometimes its just to cry. The obvious solution seems to be to just let her cry it out. But she is relentless. And the one time I let her cry it out, she really did have to go to the bathroom and she wet the bed. I still feel guilty about that. And the worst part is that she knows how to get down from her bed and go to the bathroom herself. I even bought nightlights for the hallway and bathroom and she still won't go alone at night.

So this raises a few questions for all you mommies, daddies, grammies, grampies, aunties, nannies, etc. out there. Does your 2, almost-3-year-old still take consistent naps? If so, are they on a specific schedule? If not, when did they stop napping and how do you work bedtime? And while we are on the subject of bedtime, do any of your kiddies still wake up in the middle of the night? How do you handle those night wakings? I suppose at this point I am looking for any advice that might help us all get a good nights sleep around here. Tired crabiness is the worst and if there is something I can do to help my peanut sleep better...I really want to give it a try.

Thanks in advance for your help friends! Have a great weekend!!

A Bouncing Ballerina Party is in the Works!

When I asked Addie what she wanted to do for her birthday this year, I wasn't surprised to hear her say, " BOUNCY HOUSE!!!" I mean...I know it's really original and all...not like we did the SAME thing last year...but oh well. It's what she wants and it was a lot of fun so who cares if it's a repeat right?

But I do like to have fun with birthday planning so I wanted to pick some sort of theme to go with it. She has been all about dress-up and tutus lately so I thought a "bouncing ballerina" party was the perfect fit. So I set out to make the invitations first. I purchased the ballerina clip-art and then worked within Scrapblog and Picasa to make this invite...

I think they turned out really cute! I'm telling you friends...LEARN to digital scrapbook. You can make everything yourself!! I even made these coordinating cupcake toppers and printed them out on cardstock at home...

And then I purchased a 2" scallop punch and glued them to small lollipop sticks...

I will be making cupcakes once again, but I learned a new frosting technique so hopefully they will look a little less "homemade" this time :-)

Now speaking of homemade, I consulted my Mamacita for Addie's birthday outfit. I see people all over Etsy selling personalized birthday t-shirts with matching tutus so I thought surely Jan can pull something off. And did she ever. Just look at this ADORABLE birthday outfit Addie gets to wear!!

Here is a close-up of the t-shirt she made...

Like I said....ADORABLE!! Addison is so freaking excited to wear this, I keep catching her trying it on in her closet. She is going to be the cutest bouncing ballerina ever!

Since I didn't have to purchase a bunch of decorations (the bouncy house decorates the party room for you), I wanted to make sure I did something really cute for the favors. My mom came up with some so cute...I can't even post about it. I want them to be a surprise for the party. But don't will get to see plenty of pics. In case you didn't mom totally rocks :-)

If you have followed my blog for a while, you know this isn't my first rodeo. I love planning parties and decorating and crafting and obviously...I get all that from my mom. I have a LONG way to go before I am even half as creative and talented as she is, but together we make a pretty good team. So remember when I said that we are working on a business this year? Consider all this a little preview of what we hope to be doing some day. My mom's product list is a mile a long and so is my idea list. We just need to figure out how to make it all work. And more importantly...where we both find the TIME to make it all work. So until then, please feel free to e-mail me at adailydoseofdavis{at}gmail{dot}com if you are looking for inspiration, would like instructions on how I make invitations and cupcake toppers, or if you are interested in a personalized t-shirt and tutu. My mom is already accepting orders for those now :-)

Well I must run friends! My bouncing Ballerina just bounced into her brother. Have a great day!

Baby Fever is Hard to Fight Today

When you're a mom and one of your friends or family members tells you they are pregnant, it's hard not to reminisce about your own experiences with pregnancy and new mommyhood. You think about all the emotions that go along with each incredible milestone. I can still remember the day I saw my first positive pregnancy test...the day I saw my baby on the ultrasound screen for the first time...the day I found out Addie was a girl and then again the day I found out Blake was a boy. So I knew the EXACT emotions my SIL Meagan was feeling when she woke up today. Excited, scared, anxious...just to name a few. Above all else, you want to know that the baby is healthy. And I am happy to say that Baby Mueller is doing beautifully :-)

Now, once you know the baby is healthy, the next words you want to hear out of that doctor's mouth are, "It's a....". So...what were the next words out of Meagan and Ryan's doctor's mouth today?

It's a BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the beautiful picture they sent us via e-mail right after their appointment...

Obviously my brother's doing, although I am sure Meagan was creative director :-) Isn't this a picture beautiful? I can just picture it framed in their nursery.

I was actually sitting in my OB-GYN's office today for my annual check-up and I was surrounded by about 20 pregnant women when I read the news. I sort of shouted, "'s a boy!" when the message came through, expecting them to all join in on the happiness. But the woman next to me was a week overdue and she didn't exactly share in my excitement. But I have been in her shoes I get it :-)

As I sat there, all I could think about was my brother and sis sitting in that ultrasound room looking at their little man for the first time. Isn't he a cutie already?

I just can't wait to see him and hold him for the first time. Only 20 more weeks!!!!

Congrats Ryan and Meagan!!!! So happy my little nephew is happy and healthy in there. Love you guys!!!

And in other baby news, I had a visit with my friend Bre today and got to meet her PRECIOUS little man, Breckin!!! Isn't he a doll?

Just look at that perfect little face!

Just look at this happy new mommy...

I remember that feeling too. Totally exhausted...totally in love :-)

You's hard not to get baby fever on a day like today. I have been surrounded by baby bumps, ultrasound pictures and newborn cuddles all morning and that is HARD to resist. But for now...I'll take getting my baby fixes in small doses :-)

Note to Self...

When you try to be "the fun aunt" and order your niece...

And your daughter...

Their own strawberry milkshakes after dance class, you are pretty much kissing naptime goodbye for the day. As it turns out, milkshakes are like Starbucks for kids. I've never seen two little chics with more energy in my life! Well except for Dana and I when we were their age. Ha!!

Now...speaking of being an this time tomorrow I will know if I am gaining another niece or nephew!!! AHHH!!! I have already texted my SIL Meagan to tell her how excited I am for her appointment. You'd think I was the one pregnant or something.

Don't even think about it.

So stay tuned friends! I will be back with the exciting news tomorrow! I am told they have a very cute way of sharing the news with us via e-mail :-) Woohoo!!!!

The Week End & The Week Ahead

It may not have been everyone's idea of romance...but Eric and I had an amazing date night at the RV show this weekend. We looked at a TON of campers but in the end...we were both in love with this beauty right here...

It may not look like much from the outside, but let me tell you...this baby was gorgeous in person. Eric is most excited about this outdoor kitchen/cooking area...

While I am most excited about this...

The bedroom you see toward the back is the Master, but at the opposite end there is another larger room for the kids. It has an entertainment center, 3 bunks (4 if you count the movie chairs that fold down into another bed). There isn't a picture online of this room but it is AWESOME! And it will also double as a great play space for the kids. The price was definitely right on this camper (especially with the show discount) so we decided at this time next year...we will bite the bullet and bring home our new toy. Woohoo! That gives us one year to sell some other unused toys and save some money. I can't wait!!!!!!

Because we stayed out a little too late last night, we have spent the rest of this weekend lounging. It's rainy today so it was the perfect opportunity. Plus, we have quite a busy week ahead of us! For starters, we have ballet tomorrow and it is my one Monday a month where I watch Nia for the day. The girls had such a blast last time so I can't wait to have her back :-)

And then, perhaps the most EXCITING part of this brother Ryan and SIL Meagan will find out the sex of their baby on Tuesday!!!! WOOHOO!!!!

So far, everyone in our family is calling "Boy" but I am sticking with Girl. Either way...I am so excited to find out if I will be gaining a little niece or nephew!!!!!!!!

Its going to be a long wait on Tuesday to find out the news, so it's a good thing I will be distracted with another little baby! My BFF Tiffany's sister Bre just became a mommy in January and I have yet to meet her little peanut Breckin!!

This little guy is already SO much bigger than he is in this picture and I just can't wait to see his sweet face in person.

In addition to all this fun and excitement, I also have a stack of papers to grade, 3 runs I need to cram in somewhere and final birthday prep for Addie's party to complete. Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it! I may not be the world's best blogger this week, but I will at least have some good material when I do post :-) Until then friends!

Nothing Screams Romance Like an RV Show

When you hate to fly, but love to travel...what's the best way to get from point A to point B? RV of course! Eric and I have been talking a LOT about investing in an RV. Actually, Eric has been talking a lot about investing in an RV. I've always known that he wanted one, especially when he got his sights on the fabulous camper my brother and SIL have. But when he started coming home with random pamphlets and brochures...I knew he was serious.

Now, our kids are not at the right age to start going on road trips yet, but that doesn't mean we can't look and dream for the future. Plus, we belong to a great beach and recreational club that would be the PERFECT spot for "camping" with little ones (especially since our club is only 30 minutes away :-) So if you know you are in the market for something like this and you want to make sure you end up with something you love...and not a camper like Cousin Eddie's...

You need to do your research. You can do a lot of research online and Eric has made several stops at local dealers, but when we realized the Chicago RV & Camping show is this weekend...we decided it was time for a date night. Really romantic huh?

Now, I am ALL for camping, as long as I can camp in luxury. I'm not a huge fan of bugs or wild animals, I prefer to bathe in a shower and not a public outhouse, and I like to sleep on something a little more comfortable than dirt. So RV is right up my alley, especially if that means we can travel as a family and NOT have to get on an airplane. Have I mentioned how much I hate flying?

You really makes me excited to think about all the things we will get to do with the kids someday. There is so much of the United States that I haven't seen yet. I have only seen mountains from a distance and I have never seen the Pacific Ocean. Ever. And really, what better way to explore our country than on a road trip?!! So like I said...we are off to the RV show this weekend. We will also be double dating with our friends Jimmy and Jenny but when we invited them to come to the RV show with us before dinner, they said, "Thanks...but no thanks". Their loss. Ha!

But after the show, we will be meeing up for steaks and martinis. YUMMY!! The place we are going has this to-die-for Chocolate Banana Martini...

I may just order more than one. Look out!!!

Having a date night to look forward to makes Fridays so much more fun :-) I hope you all have a fabulous weekend too! I'll let you know how the RV show goes. I am sure we will have a beauty in our sights when we leave :-)

A Playdate, 3 Mile Run & Dexter

These are the reasons I could not post today. And honestly, they are all worth posting about. My playdate was with an old friend that I went to Kindergarten with. I thought about doing a post where I showed an old picture of us when we were kids, and then follow it up with a picture of us with our kids. But that didn't happen. I was too busy chasing, chatting and sipping coffee to grab my camera. Failed post #1.

Then I figured I could post about the unseasonably warm weather we had today. I mean, we did set a record afterall....

I took advantage of this 60 degree day by going for an AMAZING 3 mile run. Seriously...that is the best I have felt running in a LONG time. I thought I could post about that and use it as motivation to keep going. But it will be back in the 30s soon, which means I will head back down to my treadmill...which is far from exciting. So...failed post #2.

And finally...Eric and I wrapped up Season 4 of Dexter tonight. Oh. My. Freaking. Lord. That was the most intense episode of a show I have watched in a LONG time. There was only one other show finale that got my heart pumping like that and it was the shooter episode of Grey's last season. I am going to have trouble sleeping tonight for sure. But I am glad that Eric and I are almost caught up on this series because we have done NOTHING but watch Dexter episodes since we got the DVDs. We need a life. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to write a post on how I have a love/hate relationship with TV but because it is almost midnight and I am going to have to be up with one or both of my kiddies in about 5-6 hours...I need to hit the sack. Failed post #3. Sorry friends!! Talk to you tomorrow!

My Persnickety Prints Are In!!!

And I'm here to tell you scrapbooking is the way to go!!! Pernickety Prints has now COMPLETELY sold me on this idea and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to traditional scrapbooking again. Just look how gorgeous my prints turned out...

And no one is paying me or offering me freebies to say that. I found Persnickety Prints through Clover Lane and they are every bit as awesome as she said they were. These prints are crystal clear and the paper quality is AMAZING for the price. Just think of it this way...

The black and white photo of Blake on the page to the left is about the size of an 8x10. To order an 8x10 print from Shutterfly or Snapfish is $3.99 and then you would still have to buy scrapbook paper, adhesive, stickers, etc. so you are easily talking AT LEAST $6 for one traditional scrapbook page. These pages from Persnickety are $1.99! I actually scored them for $1.89 a page during their Superbowl sale, which is why I ordered so many prints off the bat :-)

Have I sold you yet? No? Well how about just a month of working on digital scrapbooking (and we are talking maybe 10 hours of work total) I have completed 68 pages!!! When I would spend nights (or days) doing traditional scrapbooking...I would be lucky if I got 10 pages done. I am not fast AT ALL but digital just worked so much better for me! So really...if you have some free with some digital scrapbooking software and give it a go. I promise you won't regret it :-)

I'm So Over You Winter!

I'm spending my naptime today eating left over Valentine's candy, flipping through my Pottery Barn Catalog and dreaming of spring. Don't you wish you had a view like this from your window right now?

Living in the Midwest is actually pretty awesome (in my opinion) because you get to experience all of the seasons. We have beautiful springs, warm balmy summers, colorful falls and crisp, sparkly winters. We get it all here and I love that. BUT...that doesn't mean that I don't get totally and completely SICK of each season as it comes to a close. By the end of summer, I am begging for cooler fall weather. And when Christmas is in the air, I am begging for a thick blanket of snow. I guess I really only enjoy any season for about a month or two and then I'm over it.

So I have officially reached that point with winter this year. I am over bundling up in 20 layers just to run to the store. I am over snow boots. I am over the sickies and winter germs. And most of all, I am over my house and being trapped inside for weeks on end. I long for the days of having my windows open, for sitting on my patio reading my Nook while the kids nap, for going places without having to wear a coat, for fresh fruit and veggies and most of all...for taking a run outside!!

Are all of you dreaming of Spring already? What are you most looking forward to?

My Little Love Bugs

When I bought these little Hallmark "Bug 'em" Lady Bugs a few weeks ago I thought, "Oh are such a sucker for a gimmick." And I was. I saw that commercial where the mom puts these little lady bugs in the kids bedrooms with little treats and they all wake up with big smiles. I was sold. So I bought them. And today...I am SO GLAD I did!

You two little love bugs are sick. Addie is definitely on the mend, but she still isn't 100%. She woke up fussing a little today but then I heard her yell from her room, "There's a Wady Bug on my dresser!!!" That little frown of hers turned upside down...

And Blakey Boy was equally excited to see his lady bug waiting for him with a big bag of Yogurt Bites. Look at his sick little face :-(

I think what bums Addie and I out the most today is that she can't go to ballet. Her cough is just a little too strong to be around other kiddies, which is really sad because I made a bunch of special treats for her to take to her friends today...

But that's okay...Aunt Dana and Nia are going to take them for us. And then we can stay home and eat a bunch of our own Valentine's treats...

And when Daddy comes home, we can have the rest our chocolate fondue. YUMMY!!!!

I hope you all have a Very Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

In Case I Haven't Said it Enough

Some days, I wonder when I became an adult. Sure I do a lot of "adult" things every day like pay bills, take care of a home, take care of my kids, go to work, etc. but when I am really stressed or scared, I turn into a 5-year-old girl who only wants to talk to her mommy and daddy. I want them to help me and tell me that everything is going to be all right. Some people aren't lucky enough to have parents who live only 5 minutes away. Some people aren't lucky enough to have both of their parents alive and healthy. Some people aren't lucky enough to have parents who are willing to drop anything to help their kids...even though they are 30-years-old and clearly capable of taking care of themselves.

But I am. I am one of the lucky ones. I have two of the best parents in the world.

This has been a challenging week. I've been in "survival mode". Eric has been working long hours, we have had a lot of obligations, the kids have been under the weather, etc. So like I said...when I feel stressed, scared or overwhelmed...I turn to my parents.

Every day this week, one or both of my parents have been there to help me out with something. Between getting up at 4:30a.m. to come over and watch the kids so I could sit at preschool registration, or driving out in -30 degree weather to help me scrub blood off my carpet when Howie cut is parents have been logging some serious hours for me. In my head I am shouting, "THANK YOU!!! I LOVE YOU!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT YOU!" But I am not sure if I say it outloud enough. I think maybe sometimes I take for granted how good I have it and how lucky I am to have two parents who do SO MUCH for me.

So Mom and Dad, in case I haven't said it enough this week.

Thank you.

I love you.

And I honestly don't know what I would do without you :-)

A Special Birthday Message for Uncle Ryan

Addie asked me if she could be the one to send Uncle Ryan a Happy Birthday message today and since she can't type...I had her do what she does best. The girl sings about as well as I do, but she is WAY cuter when she does it :-)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Uncle Ryan!! We love you an hope you have a great day!!

Addie & Blake's First Haircuts!

First haircuts are a pretty momentous occasion. So naturally, I forgot to charge the battery in the camera that I made sure to put in my purse the night before.

Luckily, I had my iPhone and even though the picture quality isn't great, I was still able to capture some really cute moments with the kids. This little chic right here was actually excited to get her hair cut today!

Blake wasn't thrilled...but he hung in there.

I think he would have been happier just hanging on this firetruck all morning...

And to be honest, Addie probably would have been fine horsing around in the waiting area too...

But when they called the kids names, Blake pointed at Addie to go first.

I would have let her, but Blake's patience was already running out and I wanted to get him in the cute little seat before he realized what was coming. At first, the little guy was totally content...

I think the clippers were fascinating to him...

But when he realized what was really going on...he was over it.

And the tears started flowing :-(

Even though Blake cried, he sat really still for the stylist and in the end, he got himself a SUPER cute new hairdo. And when it was all over, Nana gave him some cuddles.

And that made everything ALL better :-)

Next up was my little Drama Queen.

Even though she said she was "So Hoppy!" to get her haircut, I wasn't sure if she would cooperate when the time came. But this little Jeep seat made all the difference.

She was SO sweet sitting in her little chair the whole time.

When the stylist told her to look up...she did. When she said look down...she did.

And when it came time for the blow-out...she just sat there like a little angel.

And almost fell asleep.

For being such a good little girl, the stylist told Addie she had a special treat...

So she braided her hair...

And gave her a little crown.

That just made her day. And now she has a beautiful new haircut...

And a bag full of candy, compliments of Papa.

I would say it was a pretty successful day!! Hopefully all of our haircuts will go as well in the future :-)
